October 17-19, 2014
Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center
The annual retreat for youth and adults with special needs has been a highlight of the year for all those involved. Read below to hear from those who have been blessed by this event.
Mary Buckner, a retreat leader
“The Retreat for Teens and Adults with Special Needs held every mid-October at Eagle Eyrie is one of the best-kept secrets ever. Now in its 40th year, the 3-day event features Bible study classes (organized according to age and level of functioning), a student Talent Show, a BIG dance on Saturday evening, and concludes with a Spirit-filled worship service on Sunday morning. Parents and chaperones have classes and activities geared just for them, as well. Along with Rod Miller, Director of Eagle Eyrie, I have been privileged to provide leadership for this event for the past 8 years. It is the happiest weekend of the entire year and one that I, and our staff, look forward to every year.”
Margie Campbell, a retreat teacher
“The Special Needs Retreat at Eagle Eyrie has been a highlight of the year for the past 39 years. From a teacher’s viewpoint, it is a wonderful experience for all participants, a time of fellowship, of sharing talents which is intertwined with lots of fun. It’s a time of renewing friendships as well as making new friends, and above all is sharing our faith in Christ. Come join us in October for a wonderful weekend.”
Kelly Dyer, a student participant

2) I HAVE SO MUCH FUN LEARNNG MORE ABOUT JESUS AND DOING ARTS / CRAFTS.
3) SPENDING TIME WITH MY FRIENDS AND GOD IN HIS MOUNTAINS I CAN GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT JESUS AND GETTING TO KNOW MY FRIENDS MORE BY SINGING AND PLAYING WITH THEM.
Dolores Lane, a retreat leader
“What does camp mean to me as Director of the Super Kids and attender for how many years?
Camp means love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, kindness, and pureness. You see I have some very dear friends who look forward to this camp every year and it is their chance to take a vacation, to be independent, to go off with friends, stay up late, just hang out, put on makeup, if you’re a guy, tell jokes with the guys , to display their talent, and of course a chance to go to a Saturday dance and to see their dreams come true. In the midst of all of this I have acquired some extended family both special needs and other counselor, director, and teacher friends who feel like family. As a twin to a precious down syndrome, I know Frances and her friends had wishes and Eagle Eyrie is fulfilling those wishes in a special way. Because of this and Jesus in my heart I have love, joy peace, and EAGLE EYRIE I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU AND PTL.”
